NetMind docs

Everything you need to set up and get the most out of NetMind.

Your antivirus may flag NetMind. To control bandwidth, NetMind intercepts network traffic and runs with administrator rights — the same techniques antivirus software watches for. If the installer or the app is blocked or quarantined, restore it and add an exclusion for the NetMind folder (C:\Program Files\NetMind on Windows), then run it again. Only download NetMind from our website or official GitHub releases.

Getting started

  1. Create your account

Sign up with email and password, then click the link in the verification email. The Free plan is active immediately — no card needed.

  2. Download the installer

Choose one Windows or Linux computer that stays connected to the network you want to manage. Run NetMind on only one computer per network.

    Windows: download NetMind-Setup-Windows.exe.

Linux: download NetMind-Setup, then right-click it → Properties → Permissions → Allow executing file as program.

  3. Run the setup wizard

Double-click the installer. On Windows, click Yes on the administrator prompt; on Linux, enter your computer's password when asked. The wizard installs everything NetMind needs — the network driver (Npcap on Windows, system packages on Linux), Docker, and the local AI model (about 5 GB) — then puts a NetMind icon on your desktop.

  4. Sign in to the app

Open NetMind from the desktop icon and sign in with the same email and password as the website (plus your 6-digit code if two-factor sign-in is on). The app links itself to your account: your devices show up on the Devices page within seconds, and your plan's features unlock automatically.

  5. Describe your network

On first launch the app asks you to describe your goals in plain English, for example "I run a café. The till PC gets priority, limit any single device to 20 Mbps." On the Paid plan, Autopilot then applies that policy automatically.

System requirements

Desktop app: a 64-bit computer running Windows 11 or Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Kali, Fedora, Arch and similar), 8 GB RAM recommended for the local AI, about 13 GB of free disk space, and administrator rights. The computer must be on the same local network as the devices you want to manage — no router changes needed. Networks that isolate clients from each other, such as most public guest Wi-Fi, are not supported.

One NetMind per network: NetMind manages traffic by routing your devices through its computer using ARP. Running two or more copies on the same network makes them compete for that role — devices can drop their connection and limits or blocks stop working reliably. Install it on one computer only, and use the web dashboard from anywhere else.

Web dashboard: any modern browser — Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari, on desktop or mobile.

Web dashboard guide

Devices

Lists every device the desktop app sees, with live download and upload speed. Use Limit, Block and Unblock to control a device from anywhere — the app applies the change within a few seconds. The Free plan can control 5 devices at once, the Paid plan has no limit. Monitoring always covers every device.

Analytics

Total bandwidth over time, sampled once a minute while the app is online. Free accounts keep 7 days of history, Paid accounts 30 days.

Alerts

New devices joining your network, the app going offline or coming back, sign-ins from new devices and account changes. The bell in the top bar shows unread warnings from the last 24 hours.

Email reports

A weekly summary every Monday morning (all plans) and a daily report every morning (Paid plan), sent in the timezone you choose under Account → Preferences.

Webhooks

Under Settings → Integrations, enter a URL and NetMind sends a JSON POST for every event: {"event", "message", "severity", "metadata", "created_at"}. Use "Send test event" to check it. This works with Zapier, Make, n8n and chat relays.

Billing

Online card checkout is coming soon. To upgrade, click Request upgrade on the Billing page and choose local payment (70 DT, Tunisia) or PayPal ($20). We email payment details and switch your account to Paid as soon as the payment arrives. Nothing renews automatically.

AI features (Paid plan)

The AI runs locally on your own computer — no network data is sent to an AI service.

  • AI Chat — ask questions like "Which device is using the most bandwidth?" or give commands like "Limit 192.168.1.45 to 3 Mbps".
  • Autopilot — applies your network policy every 30 seconds and logs each decision with its reasoning.
  • Reconfigure — rewrite your network goals in plain English at any time and generate a new policy.

Troubleshooting

  • The dashboard says "App offline". Open NetMind on the computer where you installed it and press Start. The dashboard updates within 30 seconds.
  • My antivirus deleted or blocked NetMind. Restore it from quarantine, add an exclusion for the NetMind folder (C:\Program Files\NetMind on Windows), then run it again.
  • Devices keep disconnecting. Make sure NetMind is running on only one computer on your network — two or more copies interfere with each other.
  • The app says two-factor is required. Update to the latest version, which asks for your 6-digit code after your password.
  • I signed up with Google. The desktop app signs in with email and password — set a password first under Account → Change Password.
  • Still stuck? Contact us and include your operating system (Windows version or Linux distribution) and what the app shows.
