System requirements.
What you need depends on your plan — the AI features on the Paid plan run on your own computer, so they need more memory and disk.
| Requirement | Free plan · without AI | Paid plan · with AI |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 11 (64-bit), or 64-bit Linux — Ubuntu, Debian, Kali, Fedora, Arch and similar | |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM recommended — the local AI loads into memory while it works |
| Disk space used | About 3 GB — the app plus monitoring | About 13 GB — the app, monitoring and the local AI |
| Free space to install | About 13 GB on both plans — the installer currently sets up the AI for every account | |
| Permissions | Administrator rights on that computer | |
| Network | On the same local network as the devices you want to manage. No router changes needed. Client-isolated networks (most public guest Wi-Fi) are not supported. | |
| Install time | Usually around 15 minutes — allow longer on a slow connection, because of the AI download | |
| Web dashboard | Any modern browser — Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari, on desktop or mobile | |
Pick a computer that stays on and connected — NetMind only manages the network while it's running. Install it on one computer per network.
Where the space goes
| Part | Size | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| NetMind app | ~0.1 GB | The desktop app itself |
| Monitoring (Grafana, Prometheus and Docker) | ~3 GB | Network charts and the data behind them — grows slowly as history builds up |
| AI model (Llama 3.1) | ~4.9 GB | The AI behind AI Chat, Autopilot and Reconfigure |
| AI runtime (Ollama) | ~4.6 GB | Runs the model. Most of its size is support for NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards, which it installs whether or not you have one |
Measured on a Linux install. Windows can need more, because Docker Desktop is larger there.
If your antivirus blocks NetMind.
Here's how to restore it and stop it from being flagged again.
Microsoft Defender
Built into Windows — this is the one to check if you haven't installed another antivirus.
- Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection.
- If NetMind was removed: Protection history → select the NetMind item → Actions → Restore.
- Under Virus & threat protection settings, click Manage settings, then Add or remove exclusions.
- Add an exclusion → Folder and choose
C:\Program Files\NetMind.
Other antivirus software
If you installed a separate antivirus, the steps are the same idea:
- Open your antivirus and restore NetMind from its quarantine if it was removed.
- In its settings, find the exclusions list — sometimes called "trusted applications" or "allowed items".
- Add the folder
C:\Program Files\NetMindon Windows, or/opt/netmindon Linux. - Run the installer or the app again.
Menu names differ between antivirus brands and versions.
Updates, release notes and removal.
What's new in v2.1.1
- Paid controls lock immediately if your session can't be verified, and switch back on when the connection returns
- A 10-second grace period on brief network drops — limits already applied keep running
- Available on Windows and Linux
Updates
The app checks for new versions and updates itself — you don't need to come back to this page to stay current.
Uninstalling
Windows: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → NetMind → Uninstall.
Linux: open NetMind Uninstaller from your applications menu and enter your password.
